Great British Bake off Bets Halted By Ladbrokes
Great British Bake Off bets halted by Ladbrokes
Ladbrokes has actually stopped banking on BBC reveal the Great British Bake Off after a flurry of wagers sparked fears the winner's name might have been dripped.
"A run of bets" was put for one entrant, many at stores in the Ipswich location, the bookmaker stated.
It is not understood which baker prompted the flurry or whether any entrants have connections with the Suffolk town.
The first episode of the popular amateur baking contest aired on BBC One Wednesday evening.
It is the 6th series of the program, which challenges 12 hopefuls to impress judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.
Every week the amateur bakers are expected to take on a baking difficulty, with minimal guidelines, and provide a "signature meal".
'Soggy bottom'
The bookmaker stated a flurry of bets came in for one of the 12 candidates whose odds started at 12/1 and were decreased to 6/1, 3/1 and then evens.
"We provided prices on Monday and, practically before the ink was dry, an uncommon number of punters remained in a rush to back only one entrant," David Williams of Ladbrokes said.
"On Tuesday and Wednesday it was more of the very same one-way traffic. That sufficed to set our alarm bells sounding and, as a preventative measure, we suspended our betting.
"Hopefully, we'll return up with modified chances earlier rather than later on, but we didn't wish to get caught with our trousers took down and a soggy bottom, so we've chosen to relax until we are reassured that Bake Off hasn't gone off currently.
"When you see a run of bets like this for one participant at the cost of everyone else that can be an indication to suspend betting for a bit to examine the situation," he added.
